I recently changed the site from a folder on my business site, to its own domain (jpthien.com).

REASON:  While I felt having it in a folder on my business site provided decent compartmentalization (that has to be one of the longest words in the English language), the search engine crawlers kept mixing the content of the two together.  So people searching for my business would see weird dust separators.  And people looking for dust separators were finding some weird computer stuff.

So I decided to just separate it into a new domain.

I think the forum is okay.  The mailing list needs addressing.

If you find other things that don't work, please post them here in this thread so I can clean it up.

Thank you for understanding.

Attachments not appearing has been fixed.

Have a couple of links I found that need fixing.  If anyone else finds anything, please let me know.

Hi Phil, the "discussion forum" link on http://www.jpthien.com, in the paragraph just underneath "Description of projects..." still refers to the old cgallery-link.

All the best with the new site/domain!

Phil,

You may still be having some problems.  Two evenings in a row, I've not been able to connect.  Message says server not available.  I don't know if it is due to heavier loads in the evening or some other problem.  I'll let you know if it persists.

It may continue for a bit.

What I didn't know when I switched everything to an "addon domain" is that there is a 250MB/day limit on the domain data transfer.  Apparently the main domain (the cgallery.com) has unlimited xfer, but any addon domain is limited to 250MB/day.

I think webmasters.com (my hosting company) is one of the few that caps addon domains.  The reality is that I paid $10 for the addon domain name (through webmasters.com), I'm not transferring any more data than before, but now it isn't working.  Hardly seems like a bargain.

So I'm going to move hosting outfits to somewhere more addon domain friendly.

Hi Phil, when reading in an old forum topic and seeing a reference to an older forum-thread/post that turned out to not having been 'fixed' yet, I did a search via the search box (at  http://www.jpthien.com/smf/index.php) for: cgallery.com/smf and I found 30 forum posts that contain links that start with "cgallery.com/smf" (and now lead to nowhere) and thus would still need a fix to "jpthien.com/smf"

The url's of the forum post that contain these "cgallery.com/smf" links are:

Thanks again for your work, and: all the best with the ongoing/latest adventures at finding the perfect (or at least: a satisfactory) host!  :-\

phil (admin)

Wow, thanks!  I didn't even think of that.  Fixing those will be a good project for me while watching the news tonight.

knappingdutchman

Actually, there may be more posts with links to fix... I just noticed the post immediately preceding the post url no. 30 points to also has a 'dead' link in it, yet it didn't came up in my search...

the url to that post is:
http://www.jpthien.com/smf/index.php?topic=652.msg3785#msg3785

Anyway, I'll report more links here if/when I come across them  ;)

phil (admin)

Wow.  I'm going to look into doing this in SQL instead of editing these manually.

phil (admin)

Follow-up:  I have a way to do this via the SQL server, rather than manually.  I will do it this weekend, so I can do a backup (and recover) in the event that I screw something up.

phil (admin)

Okay, did an update in SQL and got:  110 rows affected. ( Query took 0.0355 sec )

So 110 messages had links back to cgallery.com.  I'm pretty thrilled I didn't try to edit those manually!

Again, thanks for the feedback, I had missed that entirely!

Hi, Phil.
When going through the site as a newbie trying to learn, I believe there is one more broken link:  http://www.jpthien.com/jpthien/cy.htm
It is in the info about the plans on the page: http://www.jpthien.com/smf/index.php?topic=137.0
Thank you.
