I can see that, sorry...

I meant a much more narrower "slot" compared to that one. Of course you can't decrease the area too much but it seems that the area of the rectangular part of your intake is almost larger than the circular part?

In your second photo I can look into the inlet pipe and see quite a bit of the outlet pipe.  That should not be.  The diameter of the separator should be large enough so that the inlet pipe is well outside the diameter of the outlet.  If not, you will have a lot of waste by-pass.

With less effort you could try a transition from round to rectangular inlet and in that way get the inlet outside the diameter of the outlet. That may also have effect on separation on coarse chips due to better "air rotation".

That is if you don't want to increase chamber diameter which I agree is the best solution....

Yes it is fascinating what people throw away. This vacuum cleaner had cracked in the plastic in the nozzle, but other than that I can't find anything wrong with it. It's 2200 W Bosch that's quiet and has a lot of suction power, even better than my nilfisk shopvac it seems! And the combo with the separator gets much smaller..

But it would be fun to build a blower like the one Matthias Wandel published not so long ago.

You're right about the plastic. I found out the hard way to avoid bending acrylic (even though it wasn't the same thickness as the top and baffle is now obviously).

Hello!

I've had this running for a while and I'm very pleased with it so far. Using a ordinary vacuum cleaner  found in a dumpster as a blower. I may build a "real" blower in the future but I'm in no hurry...

I've used a trash can bin in stainless steel for the walls. I made a prototype with clear plastic but it cracked more and more. It is a rather small radius...Now its clear plastic in the top and the baffle instead. Good to see if any shavings get stuck on the baffle. Happened a few times when doing hand planing.

Bell mouth outlet made by a water spray bottle (!)

Extremely fine dust makes it to the walls of the bag in the vacuum cleaner but it is very small amounts, I've emtied the dust bin at least 10 times and it is still just on the wall. The bag and the HEPA filter in the cleaner hopefully makes the dust stay there and not entering the room again.

Yes, or rather; attached on the underside of the baffle somehow.

Well, just a lot of thoughts and  trying to understand the concept. I still don't fully grasp the function of the 120/240. As you say the 120 degree part is needed to break the air stream so that "the dust can settle". But there is clearly circulation going on below the baffle. The question is if you want to minimize the the circulation as much as possible under the baffle and if you can do it without affecting it above? And if the answer is no and that you want circulation also under the baffle; what is the function of the 120 degree solid part in a "tall system"? It obviously will divide an air stream but that is in an ongoing downward spiral that would be there anyway?

Ok. But then another question: There seems to be a certain amount of circulation under the baffle anyway. What about disturbing the circulation with something? Wooden blocks for example?

Hello!

I've seen some constructions with double height chambers and even more than that. Wondering: what about to have the slot going all the way around and fix the baffle with rods (unless you're a magician...) for these increased height chambers? When the inlet is far away from the baffle the air stream isn't going to hit the baffle before going around one to two times...

Is the 120 degree solid part important anyway?
