I built a top hat separator that is 10" tall and 16" in diameter. My baffle opening is 240 degrees and 1.5" wide, I cut the beginning and the end with a hole saw. It works great with my table saw, mitre saw, and sander. I am having wood slivers back up and plug the baffle when I use my planer and lathe. My initial thoughts would be to cur my slot wider, maybe up to 2" but my fear is that wood dust will be sucked up then. Looking for suggestions from the experts as I am just beginning my woodworking experience. Thanks to everyone!
Dan
How thick is your baffle? What is the material? Did you round over the top and bottom edge of the hole saw cut?
With long stringy shavings it does happen sometimes in my separators. I have clear tops on them so I can have a peek and see if things are getting too gummed up, I can drop the collection drum and clean out the shavings.
One more example of why it doesn't pay to try to help people. I'm done!
