The vacuum is going to be used as a general collection/separator for my small (read: tiny) basement shop and will be used for various tools (bandsaw, router table, sander) and just general vacuuming, so the push separator won't be ideal.

There will be blast gates on the planer discharge and the auxiliary hose. The Shop Vac enclosure will be insulated for sound for general use (kind of funny while running a 735 which runs as loud as a jet engine). The vacuum will be running off an iVac automatic switch and circuit splitter. Everything will be sitting on a 24"x48" cart. It should be pretty slick once it's done. Pics will follow!

Good Day Everyone!

I've decided to build a Thien separator to use with a 5hp Shop Vac and a trash can. I will be using a Dewalt 735, first going through a manifold where I can connect an auxiliary vacuum hose with a blast gate. I plan on using 4" hose from the planer to the manifold and to the Thien intake. The planer will be sitting on top of an enclosure/cart housing the Shop Vac and the trash can, so there won't be a long distance from the planer to the manifold to the collector.

The 735 has a powerful chip blower. Questions:

-Will there be a problem with chips accumulating in the separator and therefore getting sucked into the vacuum before dropping down into the can?
-Should I run the intake down through the separator baffle to send the chips right into the bottom of the trash can?

Any insight would be great! Thanks!

Cheers,

Good Day Everyone! My name is Varp and I'm currently building a mobile Shop Vac cart with on-board Thien Sepparator and a Dewalt 735 on top. I've got some questions to and figured this forum would be a good place to start!

Cheers,

Varp
