Title: 360 degree open slot?
Post by: PPZ on May 22, 2018, 09:25:26 AM
To me, there are two separations needed.

* One is centrifugal force to keep heavier than air dust at the outer diameter.
* Also very important, is the initial downward airflow and then backup (thus dust separation) of the air to outlet by placing outlet pipe lower than the inlet (thus forcing the downward airflow speed).

To me, the open slot can be 360 degree instead of 240 degree to encourage more centrifugal air speed.
Or, an angled baffle at the start of closed slot area to force downward speed for more separation.

Thoughts and comments?

Several folks have tried 300+ degree slots and had poor results due to turbulence in the lower chamber bringing finer chips back up.

the baffle plate is designed to seperate the top chambe from the dust collection bin at the bottom. the smaller the slot the less will go down but the slower the air will be below the bafffle. you want fast air above and slow air below

not sure what your second idea is. are you trying to force the air down into the slot,. ths would have a very bad effect on efficience . it would drive all the dust in the bin all over the place and allow it to get sucked back up
