5" side inlet trash can separator. Best way to do this?

I am wondering what the easiest way to set up a Thien style separator with a side inlet on a 30 gallon galvanized trash can. I have a HF 2HP DC with a Thien separator with a side inlet in a 55 gallon drum, and the drum itself is just unwieldy...

I have seen the Top Hat type builds and they look, interesting.  But how time consuming is the build actually?

it shouldnt take that long. i built mine out of layers of mdf. i did it in a few evenings.

if its only the drum being unwieldy i would build a  reducing section to reduce down the diameter to the 30 gallon drum.
it should work  and might be faster than building a new seperater

for my tophat it took me a day to build. you can look at retired post from the 3rd and mine was done on the 5th

Actually, it took me nearly two years from concept to completion!  The next one will probably only take six months.
