Title: Quick Question on Drum Size and type
Post by: fstellab on March 01, 2013, 08:59:05 AM
Hi Folks,

I just purchased a HF 2hp dust collector, It was easy putting it together after I tossed the manual in the garbage. I purchased it with the intention of installing the Thien's mods.

So I am ready to get started, I am just wondering about the size of the drum. I would really like to get a 30 gallon drum due to space issues in the small shop I have. If the 55gal would make difference in performance I would work it in some how.

Also, the of drum, I like the white translucent that I see many folks are using, but if the fiber drum is better I would use it.

I am keeping the duct work very simple, all my tools (Table Saw, Miter Saw, Router Table) are with in 10 feet of the collector, so at first I am going to use 1 10 ft 4" flex hose, with a quick connect, and just move the hose from tool to tool.

Thanks
-Fred

my seperater is built for a 55 gallon oil drum.
it is suprising how fast you can fill it.
if you ever plan on having a planer thicknesser i would go with the larger diameter.
that extra diameter will help reduce the losses on the system
